The VA provides mental health services to Veterans and transitioning service members. Services address posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, military sexual trauma, suicide prevention, grief, anxiety, and substance use problems. Over 1.7 million Veterans received mental health services at the VA last year. Services range from peer support with other Veterans to counseling, therapy, medication, or combinations of these options. Veterans can access services through VA medical centers, Vet Centers, or via telehealth. No enrollment in VA health care is required. The Veterans Crisis Line is available 24/7 at 988 (select 1), by text at 838255, or by TTY at 711 then 988.
