Great to meet you

The VA provides mental health services to Veterans regardless of discharge status or enrollment in VA health care. Services are available for PTSD, depression, anxiety, military sexual trauma, suicide prevention, grief, and readjustment to civilian life. Veterans can access care through VA medical centers, Vet Centers, and telehealth options. Services range from peer support with other Veterans to counseling, therapy, and medication. The VA operates the Veterans Crisis Line (call 988 and select 1) available 24/7. Over 1.7 million Veterans received mental health services through the VA in the prior year. Veterans can call 877-222-8387 Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET to find resources, or walk into any VA medical center anytime.

Cognitive behavioral therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Spots the thought-feeling-action loops that fuel urges, then rewires them with practical skills you take into the moment.

Contingency management/motivational incentives

Contingency Management. Evidence-based reinforcement approach: small, immediate, tangible rewards for verified abstinence and engagement. Strongest evidence base of any non-medication intervention for stimulant + gambling disorder.

Motivational interviewing

Motivational Interviewing. A collaborative conversation that strengthens your own reasons for change rather than arguing you into it.

Relapse prevention

Relapse Prevention. Identifies your specific high-risk situations, warning signs, and choice points. Then builds a written, rehearsed plan for each so the moment is not the first time you decide.

Substance use disorder counseling

A therapeutic approach included in this provider’s plan of care. Contact for specifics on how it shows up in their work.

Telemedicine/telehealth therapy

Telehealth Therapy. Real clinical sessions delivered over video. Same evidence base as in-person care for most conditions; meets you where you actually are instead of where the office is.

Trauma-related counseling

A therapeutic approach included in this provider’s plan of care. Contact for specifics on how it shows up in their work.

12-step facilitation

Twelve-Step Facilitation. Helps you engage with mutual-aid fellowships (GA, AA, SMART) as a recovery community rather than a solo grind.
