The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides mental health services to veterans and transitioning service members. Services are available regardless of discharge status or VA health care enrollment. The VA offers a range of mental health support including peer support with other veterans, counseling, therapy, medication, or combinations thereof. Services address PTSD, depression, anxiety, military sexual trauma, grief, suicide prevention, sleep problems, anger management, and readjustment to civilian life. Care can be accessed through VA medical centers, Vet Centers, telehealth platforms, online self-help portals, and mobile apps. The Veterans Crisis Line provides 24/7 confidential support by calling 988 and selecting option 1, texting 838255, or starting a confidential chat. The VA also offers peer assistance through the BeThere program in partnership with Military OneSource.
