The VA provides mental health services to Veterans and transitioning service members through a network of VA medical centers and Vet Centers. Services address posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, military sexual trauma (MST), anxiety, grief, suicide prevention, and substance use problems. Over 1.7 million Veterans received mental health services at the VA in the prior year. Services range from peer support with other Veterans to counseling, therapy, medication, or combinations thereof. Telemental health options are available for Veterans unable to access facilities in person. The Veterans Crisis Line provides 24/7 confidential support at 988 (select 1), text 838255, or chat. Mental health services are accessible regardless of discharge status, service history, or VA health care enrollment. Group therapy
Group Therapy. A small facilitated circle where people working on similar struggles practice naming what is hard, hearing themselves in others, and learning skills together. The room is the medicine.
Trauma-informed care
Trauma-Informed Care. Approaches addiction as something layered on top of unprocessed trauma, not in isolation. Pacing matters more than confrontation.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention. Practices noticing urges without acting on them, building the gap between trigger and choice.
Peer support
Peer Recovery Support. A credentialed person in long-term recovery walks alongside you, sharing what worked for them and connecting you to the right resources at the right moment.
