The Veterans Administration (VA) provides mental health services to Veterans across multiple service eras including Operation Enduring Freedom, Iraq War, Gulf War, Cold War Era, Vietnam War, Korean War, and World War II. Services include support for PTSD, depression, suicide prevention, military sexual trauma, substance use problems, and other mental health needs. The VA offers multiple access points including VA medical centers and Vet Centers available 24/7, with services ranging from peer support with other Veterans to counseling, therapy, medication, or combinations thereof. Services are free and available regardless of discharge status or VA health care enrollment. The VA served over 1.7 million Veterans with mental health services and offers telehealth options, online self-help portals, smartphone apps, and peer support programs for those unable to access in-person care.

What a first session looks like
Virtual & In-PersonVeterans can call 877-222-8387 (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET) or walk into any VA medical center or Vet Center to schedule an appointment. Those already using VA services can ask their primary care provider to help arrange a mental health appointment. No VA health care enrollment is required.
