The Veterans Affairs (VA) provides mental health services to Veterans through multiple access points including VA medical centers, Vet Centers, and telemental health programs. Services address PTSD, depression, military sexual trauma (MST), anxiety, suicide prevention, substance use problems, grief, anger management, and readjustment to civilian life. Veterans can access services regardless of discharge status or VA health care enrollment. The VA served over 1.7 million Veterans with mental health services and offers peer support, counseling, therapy, medication, and combinations thereof. Crisis support is available 24/7 through the Veterans Crisis Line. Services can be accessed by calling a VA medical center, Vet Center, or the main line at 877-222-8387.

What a first session looks like

Virtual & In-Person

Veterans can call or walk into any VA medical center anytime, day or night, or call a Vet Center during clinic hours. To schedule an appointment if already using VA medical services, ask your primary care provider for a referral. If not already enrolled, contact your nearest VA medical center or Vet Center to discuss needs. The main helpline is 877-222-8387 (Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET).

Group Therapy. A small facilitated circle where people working on similar struggles practice naming what is hard, hearing themselves in others, and learning skills together. The room is the medicine.

Peer Recovery Support. A credentialed person in long-term recovery walks alongside you, sharing what worked for them and connecting you to the right resources at the right moment.
