Great to meet you

Brookhaven Treatment and Learning Center was established in 1952 in Chelsea, Vermont and serves youth ages 6-14 with emotional and behavioral disturbances and learning difficulties. The center operates on over 120 acres and provides therapeutic residential care, individual, group, and family therapy, case management services, psychopharmacological support, and specialized education. Trauma-informed services are delivered across a comprehensive campus featuring a main building with dormitory accommodations for up to 8 youth, a learning center serving both residents and day students, a family retreat for extended parental visits, and outdoor recreational areas. The program is designed to help children and families achieve success during treatment and in transition back to the community.

Role

Residential Treatment

Evidence-based approaches

Activity therapy

Activity Therapy. Structured therapeutic activities, recreation, movement, hands-on tasks, used as a vehicle for connection and emotional regulation. Often paired with talk therapy in residential and group programs.

Cognitive behavioral therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Spots the thought-feeling-action loops that fuel urges, then rewires them with practical skills you take into the moment.

Couples/family therapy

Family Therapy. Brings the people closest to the recovery into the room. Less about blame, more about updating the patterns that fed the cycle so the home becomes part of the recovery.

Group therapy

Group Therapy. A small facilitated circle where people working on similar struggles practice naming what is hard, hearing themselves in others, and learning skills together. The room is the medicine.

Individual psychotherapy

Individual Psychotherapy. One-to-one sessions with a licensed clinician. The standard-bearer of mental-health care; most evidence-based plans build around it.

Telemedicine/telehealth therapy

Telehealth Therapy. Real clinical sessions delivered over video. Same evidence base as in-person care for most conditions; meets you where you actually are instead of where the office is.
