The Cherokee Nation is a sovereign tribal government located in Indian Territory, specifically Tahlequah, Oklahoma, with reservation boundaries in northeastern Oklahoma. It is the largest tribe in the United States, serving over 450,000 tribal citizens worldwide, with more than 141,000 residing within its reservation. The Nation provides a wide range of services, including health and human services, education, employment, housing, economic and infrastructure development, environmental protection, judicial services, and tribal police. Their mission is to protect inherent sovereignty, preserve and promote Cherokee culture, language, and values, and improve the quality of life for future generations of Cherokee Nation citizens. The Cherokee Nation and its subsidiaries are one of the largest employers in northeastern Oklahoma, with approximately 11,000 employees. In fiscal year 2018, the tribe had an economic impact of over $2.16 billion on the Oklahoma economy.
