The VA provides mental health services to veterans and transitioning service members. Services address posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, military sexual trauma (MST), suicide prevention, grief, anger management, sleep problems, and readjustment to civilian life. Over 1.7 million veterans received mental health services at the VA last year. Services range from peer support with other veterans to counseling, therapy, medication, or combinations thereof. Care is accessible through VA medical centers and Vet Centers regardless of discharge status or enrollment in VA health care. Mental health services are also available online through the Veteran Training self-help portal, telemental health programs, and smartphone apps.
