About

UNC Horizons is a substance use disorder treatment program for women, including those who are pregnant, parenting, and those whose lives have been touched by abuse and violence. The program is part of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UNC-Chapel Hill with sites in Orange and Wake Counties. UNC Horizons provides comprehensive, recovery-focused treatment including residential and outpatient services, prenatal and post-partum care, psychiatric services, individual and group counseling, and medication to treat opioid use disorder. The program uses a trauma-responsive model of care that focuses on both mother and child to heal the whole family. Additional services include assistance with employment, budgeting and financial management, creating healthy relationships, and healing from abuse and violence. The program is confidential and recovery-oriented. Horizons also provides Horizons Homestead, a 32-unit apartment community offering residential housing for participating mothers and children.
