Great to meet you

Northwest Counseling and Guidance Clinic has provided behavioral health treatment for children and adolescents across Wisconsin since 1994. The clinic offers outpatient therapy, day treatment programs, school-to-home outreach services, emergency crisis intervention, mentoring, respite care, and daily living skills education. Services are delivered through a range of programs including Northwest Journey (community-based day treatment), Northwest Connections (emergency mental health services), Northwest Directions (school-based outreach for mild to moderate symptoms), and Northwest Community Partners (daily living skills and mentoring). The clinic partners with local social services, law enforcement, schools, and county departments of human services to provide evidence-informed mental health treatment aimed at strengthening families and preventing out-of-home placements.

Role

Residential Treatment

Evidence-based approaches

Activity therapy

Activity Therapy. Structured therapeutic activities, recreation, movement, hands-on tasks, used as a vehicle for connection and emotional regulation. Often paired with talk therapy in residential and group programs.

Cognitive behavioral therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Spots the thought-feeling-action loops that fuel urges, then rewires them with practical skills you take into the moment.

Couples/family therapy

Family Therapy. Brings the people closest to the recovery into the room. Less about blame, more about updating the patterns that fed the cycle so the home becomes part of the recovery.

Dialectical behavior therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Pairs acceptance with change. Especially useful when emotions feel too big to ride out without acting on them.

Group therapy

Group Therapy. A small facilitated circle where people working on similar struggles practice naming what is hard, hearing themselves in others, and learning skills together. The room is the medicine.

Individual psychotherapy

Individual Psychotherapy. One-to-one sessions with a licensed clinician. The standard-bearer of mental-health care; most evidence-based plans build around it.

Telemedicine/telehealth therapy

Telehealth Therapy. Real clinical sessions delivered over video. Same evidence base as in-person care for most conditions; meets you where you actually are instead of where the office is.
