About
Metropolitan Human Services District (MHSD) is one of ten Local Governing Entities (LGE) in Louisiana, serving persons with Mental Health Disorders, Addictive Disorders, and Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities. Legislated by the State, MHSD is responsible for the operation and management of community-based programs and services for the parishes of Orleans, St. Bernard, and Plaquemines. MHSD's mission is to ensure person-centered supports and services are available and provided to eligible individuals. They serve all age groups, including children, youth, and adults. They treat individuals suffering from mental illness such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD, and those suffering from addiction to alcohol, opioids, cocaine, and gambling. They also serve individuals with intellectual or physical impairments that occurred before age 22, such as Down syndrome, autism, and epilepsy. Services are available to residents of Orleans, Plaquemines, and St. Bernard Parishes who are uninsured or Medicaid eligible.
