Jefferson House

The Capuchin Soup Kitchen is a faith-based ministry of the Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order, inspired by St. Francis of Assisi. Located in Detroit, the organization tends to people's basic needs, especially food insecurity, while also working to stimulate minds, nourish spirits, and address root causes of social injustice. Services include meal programs at multiple sites serving free full-course meals daily, a food pantry distributing nearly 3.4 million pounds of food annually, clothing distribution, shower facilities, and emergency assistance through the Capuchin Services Center helping approximately 228,000 neighbors yearly. The organization also operates residential addiction treatment programs for men and offers AA/NA meetings at soup kitchen locations. Additional programs include On the Rise Bakery employing men in recovery, Earthworks Urban Farm producing organic produce, children and youth services with tutoring and art therapy, spiritual care and chaplain services, and Refettorio Detroit providing hospitality and reducing food waste.
