Heartland Family Service is a community-based organization founded in Omaha in 1875 that strengthens individuals, families, and communities through advocacy, education, counseling, and support services. Operating from 20 locations in east central Nebraska and southwest Iowa, the organization served nearly 120,000 individuals and families last year. The organization offers services in two main program focus areas: Housing, Safety, and Community Well-Being, and Counseling and Prevention. Heartland Family Service is accredited by the Council on Accreditation since 1984 and operates with a staff of 423 employees, 115 volunteers, and support from 634 individual donors, family foundations, and key funders.
