About Fort Thompson Service Unit
The Indian Health Service is the Federal Health Program for American Indians and Alaska Natives, operated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. IHS provides health care services to eligible American Indian and Alaska Native populations through a network of area offices across the country including Alaska, Albuquerque, Bemidji, Billings, California, Great Plains, Nashville, Navajo, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, Portland, and Tucson areas. The organization offers behavioral health services as part of its comprehensive community health approach and operates Youth Regional Treatment Centers. IHS maintains clinical and preventive services through multiple headquarters offices and provides purchased and referred care services.
