The VA provides mental health services to Veterans and transitioning service members through a network of VA medical centers and Vet Centers. Services address posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, military sexual trauma (MST), suicide prevention, and adjustment to civilian life. Care options include peer support with other Veterans, counseling, therapy, medication, or combinations thereof. The VA serves over 1.7 million Veterans annually. Services are accessible regardless of discharge status, service history, or VA health care enrollment. Online options include the Veteran Training self-help portal, mental health smartphone apps, and VA telemental health program for remote video consultations. A 24/7 Veterans Crisis Line is available by calling 988 and selecting option 1, texting 838255, or online chat. Veterans can access services by calling or walking into any VA medical center or Vet Center, or by calling 877-222-8387 (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET).
