Great to meet you

Colonial House, Inc. has served the York community since 1969, providing substance abuse treatment and support services. The organization provides safe, supportive, and therapeutic environments for individuals seeking recovery from substance use disorders. What began as an eight-bed residential home has grown into a multi-program organization dedicated to accessible, evidence-based, trauma-informed care. Colonial House serves both men and women and offers residential programs as well as outpatient services, which were introduced in 2004. The programs are designed to promote safety, empowerment, and individualized treatment planning with trauma-informed, gender-responsive, and ASAM-aligned care approaches.

Evidence-based approaches

Trauma-informed care

Trauma-Informed Care. Approaches addiction as something layered on top of unprocessed trauma, not in isolation. Pacing matters more than confrontation.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Spots the thought-feeling-action loops that fuel urges, then rewires them with practical skills you take into the moment.

DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Pairs acceptance with change. Especially useful when emotions feel too big to ride out without acting on them.

MI

Motivational Interviewing. A collaborative conversation that strengthens your own reasons for change rather than arguing you into it.

Group therapy

Group Therapy. A small facilitated circle where people working on similar struggles practice naming what is hard, hearing themselves in others, and learning skills together. The room is the medicine.

Holistic

Holistic Care. Adds nutrition, sleep, movement, and mind-body practices alongside the clinical work. Recovery is whole-person; the body matters too.
