Great to meet you

The Children's Center of Hamden offers a continuum of behavioral health, psychiatric, and special education services for vulnerable youth. Their programs include a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Program providing 24-hour therapeutic support and psychiatric oversight; Whitney Hall School, a state-approved K-12 special education day school for students with emotional and behavioral challenges; Extended Day Treatment, a six-month structured outpatient program for youth needing more than weekly therapy; and Wakeman Hall Clinic offering individualized behavioral health and substance use treatment for youth and young adults. Services include individual and family therapy, medication management, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based substance use treatment. The center operates as a coordinated pathway designed to connect youth across systems and provide appropriate levels of care to guide them back to their homes, schools, and communities.

Evidence-based approaches

Trauma-informed care

Trauma-Informed Care. Approaches addiction as something layered on top of unprocessed trauma, not in isolation. Pacing matters more than confrontation.

Family systems

Family Systems work. Brings the people closest to you into the recovery picture, since urges and relationships rarely live in separate boxes.

Group therapy

Group Therapy. A small facilitated circle where people working on similar struggles practice naming what is hard, hearing themselves in others, and learning skills together. The room is the medicine.

Medication management

Medication Management. Ongoing monitoring + adjustment of psychiatric or addiction medications by a prescribing clinician. Often paired with therapy, not in place of it.
