Border Region Behavioral Health Center is a non-profit, tax-exempt contract agency of the state of Texas that serves Webb, Jim Hogg, Starr, and Zapata counties. Originally established as the Laredo State Center in 1979 by the Texas Legislature to provide mental health and mental retardation services, the organization transitioned to a community-based model on September 1, 2000. In 2011, it was renamed Border Region Behavioral Health Center and is designated as a Local Mental Health Authority and a Mental Retardation Authority. The organization currently employs 360 people serving 9,313 clients with a budget of 28 million dollars. The Center is located in Laredo, Texas, and operates a 24-hour crisis hotline, an inquiry line for the YES Waiver program, and a First Episode Psychosis program.
