Bienestar Human Services
About Bienestar Human Services
Bienestar is a community health organization founded in 1989 that provides full-service medical care, HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention, sexual health services, mental health counseling, and medication-assisted treatment. The organization was established in direct response to the lack of resources available for Latinx and LGBTQ+ individuals at the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis in Southern California. Their services include PrEP, PEP, and STI treatment alongside culturally sensitive and affirming care. Bienestar also offers community services such as men's health, trans health, harm reduction services, youth empowerment, emergency housing assistance, and food bank services. Their harm reduction programs provide HIV and Hepatitis C testing, medication for opioid use disorders, naloxone kits, overdose prevention training, fentanyl information and test strips, safer use instructions, mental health and substance misuse counseling, and abscess and wound care services. Mental health services are provided through peer-to-peer and bilingual support groups and counseling to improve emotional, psychological, and social well-being.
