Aporia Group LLCMedication Management in Philadelphia, PA
Great to meet you
Aporia Group is a partnership with thirty years of combined experience in addiction counseling that specializes in addressing substance abuse and gambling through Imago Relationship Therapy for couples. The practice offers individual therapy, couples and family counseling, and small group therapy. Their treatment approach is holistic, addressing how life is affected by addiction and exploring new possibilities in recovery. Group therapy consists of up to eight people meeting once a week for approximately two hours, serving individuals considering recovery, those with time in recovery working through life issues, and people with codependency concerns regarding a loved one. Aporia is dedicated to creating a plan and foundation of recovery for both the addicted person and family members separately, educating each party involved in understanding and changing the dynamics around addiction.

Recovery focus

Evidence-based approaches
Family systems
Family Systems work. Brings the people closest to you into the recovery picture, since urges and relationships rarely live in separate boxes.
Group therapy
Group Therapy. A small facilitated circle where people working on similar struggles practice naming what is hard, hearing themselves in others, and learning skills together. The room is the medicine.
Holistic
Holistic Care. Adds nutrition, sleep, movement, and mind-body practices alongside the clinical work. Recovery is whole-person; the body matters too.
Psychodynamic
Psychodynamic Therapy. Explores the older patterns and unconscious dynamics underneath the surface behavior. Slower than skills-based work, deeper on the questions of why you reach for the thing you reach for.
Anger management

Cognitive behavioral therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Spots the thought-feeling-action loops that fuel urges, then rewires them with practical skills you take into the moment.
Motivational interviewing
Motivational Interviewing. A collaborative conversation that strengthens your own reasons for change rather than arguing you into it.
Relapse prevention
Relapse Prevention. Identifies your specific high-risk situations, warning signs, and choice points. Then builds a written, rehearsed plan for each so the moment is not the first time you decide.
Substance use disorder counseling
A therapeutic approach included in this provider’s plan of care. Contact for specifics on how it shows up in their work.
Telemedicine/telehealth therapy
Telehealth Therapy. Real clinical sessions delivered over video. Same evidence base as in-person care for most conditions; meets you where you actually are instead of where the office is.
Trauma-related counseling
A therapeutic approach included in this provider’s plan of care. Contact for specifics on how it shows up in their work.
12-step facilitation
Twelve-Step Facilitation. Helps you engage with mutual-aid fellowships (GA, AA, SMART) as a recovery community rather than a solo grind.
