The American School for the Deaf, founded in 1817, is the first permanent school for the deaf in the United States. Located in West Hartford, Connecticut, ASD serves deaf and hard of hearing individuals from birth through adulthood with a variety of comprehensive educational programs and services. The school provides multiple academic programs including the CORE Program, elementary, middle, and high school tracks, as well as the PACES Program. ASD offers outreach services, audiology, transition services, a deaf mentor program, community sign language classes, and community interpreting services. The school maintains residential dormitories on campus. ASD is committed to equal employment and non-discrimination practices.
